After reading about the benefits of raw foods to sweep the colon clean, I decided to design my own cleansing diet. I love carrots, so I have pledged to eat 100 raw carrots a week for the foreseeable future! I am hoping that the vitamin A, beta-carotene and high fiber content in carrots will benefit my body in a multitude of ways.
The 100-Carrot-a-Week Challenge:
I am going to eat 14 carrots a day, or one carrot every waking hour. Over the course of a week, I hope to eat 100 carrots, and over the course of a month 400 carrots. Please wish me luck with my latest health challenge. It's the ultimate in cleansing diets!
Here are some positive health benefits that I hope to receive:
1) Improved digestion and healthier bowel movements. I am sure that I will be going to the toilet often due to the large number of carrots I will be consuming (approximately 14 carrots a day!).
2) Better eyesight due to the amount of Vitamin A that I will be taking in each day. Right now I am having trouble driving at night. Hopefully this new diet will take care of this problem.
3) Smoother and more elastic skin. I have read a lot about how Vitamin A can make one's skin look younger and smoother. I have some sun damage from too many summers at the beach. Maybe this diet will help to repair my sun-damaged skin?
4) A healthier colon. I hear that beta-carotene is really good for cancer prevention. I am sure that all that fiber in my intestines is going to have a beneficial effect and keep me healthy.
I have a schedule set up that will allow me to consume one carrot per hour. When I am away from home, I will carry a small cooler with me that has fresh carrots on ice. That way I will be able to stick with my diet. I am planning to buy only organically-grown carrots from my local organic supermarket.
I am also going to make fresh carrot juice using a juice machine. The freshly-extracted juice tastes great and will provide a nice change of pace from eating strictly raw carrots. I am confident that this raw food cleansing diet will provide a lot of health benefits to me over the next several weeks. I look forward to sharing the results with you in a later blog entry! Stay tuned!
